Operational Modelling
Operational Modelling is used to assess in detail the impact schemes may have on network performance. At this level, there is a focus on detail and data accuracy in the model to ensure that the model outputs provide a realistic outcome for review and assessment. It is important to get the right outputs so that we can provide the best design and optimal layout for optimum traffic flow.
The following Operational Traffic Modelling software and versions are accepted by Main Roads:

Guidelines
Operational Modelling Guidelines provides guidance on how operational traffic models should be built for schemes where network performance is being assessed. These guidelines are used in the development of operational traffic models in Western Australia. Operational Modelling Guidelines Updates Description provides details of the amendments made to the above Operational Modelling Guidelines document in 2020-2021.

- Appendix A: Signal Data Information for Modelling provides detail of the options available for determining signal timings from SCATS data for an existing site and for the calculation of signal timings for a proposed site

Auditing
Auditing Process for Operational Modelling describes the traffic model audit process (including roles and responsibilities) for Traffic Signal Approval or where an official model audit is required. The checklists below are used to confirm what needs to be included in building a traffic model: - LinSig Model Audit Checklist - model checklist used by modeller and auditor for existing and proposed LinSig models – this is required when a formal audit is carried out by Main Roads
- Sidra Model Audit Checklist - model checklist used by modeller and auditor for existing and proposed Sidra models – this is required when a formal audit is carried out by Main Roads
