Road Safety Management at Main Roads

Committed to the belief that no death or serious injury on roads is tolerable, we have implemented a Road Safety Management System (ROSMA).

Road Safety Management (ROSMA) is a frame work that enables Safe System principles to be applied to all projects and activities that affect the state road network.

The Safe System approach views the road transport system holistically, by seeking to manage the interaction between the road user, travel speed and the vehicle.

Our Road Safety Management System Policy applies to any Main Roads infrastructure, maintenance, operational, policy, guideline and process activities that may influence the rate or density of fatal and/or serious injury on the state road network.

Contractors required to undertake the ROSMA process

Where specified in contractual documents; contractors will be required to ensure that a ROSMA assessment is conducted on the project. You do this whilst you are undertaking treatment selection (typically in the Select or early Develop phase). Please consult with the Main Roads project manager for details on how to do this.

The Treatment Resource Guide will assist with understanding the impact of various road safety treatments.

For those who need to undertake an Operational Safety Risk Evaluation please use the following:
