What’s happening
We will be installing new traffic signals at the intersection of Great Eastern Highway and Ferguson Street, in Midland, in 2026.
These signals will enable safe right turns from Ferguson Street into Great Eastern Highway under ‘green arrow’ control. This will provide a safer and more efficient exit point from the industrial area to the south of Great Eastern Highway, significantly improving access for the high number of heavy vehicles utilising this intersection to access Roe Highway.
As part of this project, the Ferguson Street intersection will be modified to allow only straight through or left-turn movements on Great Eastern Highway. This will minimise congestion on the busy highway and reduce the risk of rear-end and right-turn crashes.
In addition, minor widening will occur on each corner of the intersection to allow pedestrian crossing facilities to be upgraded with new ramps and paths. Great Eastern Highway will be fully resurfaced between Ewart Street and Lefroy Avenue, new barrier kerb installed and business crossovers upgraded to tie-in to the resurfaced highway.
This intersection upgrade is funded by the Public Transport Authority to replace access previously provided by the Robinson Road level crossing. This level crossing was closed to make way for the PTA’s new Belleuve depot as part of the METRONET WA Railcar Program.
