To celebrate this historic milestone, the community is invited to be part of a special event and walk across the new bridge before it officially opens to traffic later that evening.

The old Fremantle Traffic Bridge closed on 1 February, with the new bridge earmarked to open in the first half of 2027. Despite a challenging construction environment, the implementation of an innovative construction methodology has fast-tracked construction of Australia's first extradosed bridge to achieve an early opening.

Opening the new gateway to Fremantle in time for various major events and the Christmas trading period is a positive economic outcome for the City and businesses. The new bridge also offers a wider navigational channel for commercial and recreational river users, including ferries travelling along the Swan River to Rottnest. Finishing works will continue on the bridge and surrounding area after the opening, and the feature lighting program will be finalised during that time.

Be among the first to experience this landmark project and help mark a new chapter in Fremantle's history.
