Sutherland Street Rail Bridge Upgrade

The Sutherland Street Rail Bridge is more than 100 years old and plays a critical role in supporting rail services across the Fremantle, Midland, Airport and Ellenbrook lines.

Renewing the bridge will extend the asset's service life and reduce future maintenance requirements.

While the upgrade will result in limited visible changes to the surrounding area, it is an important investment in maintaining the safety, reliability and resilience of Perth’s rail network.

Main Roads and project partners will work closely with stakeholders and the community throughout planning and construction, keeping people informed about upcoming activities and any impacts.

The scope of this project is as follows:

• Strengthen and renew the bridge structure to extend the life of this critical piece of rail infrastructure.
• Ensure continued safe and efficient operation of the rail network. 
• Reduce future maintenance requirements and potential distruptions. 

Funding

The State Government has committed $50 million towards the project as part of its ongoing investment in maintaining and renewing critical transport infrastructure.
