Mesoscopic and Hybrid Modelling
Mesoscopic and hybrid modelling are used as assignment models to identify and assess the impacts that schemes or developments may have on the network. At this level, there is a focus on route choice to ensure that the movement of vehicles is intuitive for assessment.
The following Mesoscopic and Hybrid Modelling software and versions are recommended by Main Roads:
- Aimsun: version 2020
- Vissim: version 2021
- Visum: version 2021
Guidelines
The Mesoscopic and Hybrid Modelling Guidelines provides guidance on the development of fit-for-purpose mesoscopic and hybrid models. The purpose of the guidelines is twofold:
- The guidelines will target project managers by providing detailed information on the benefits of mesoscopic or hybrid modelling, how it could be appropriate for their project and the Main Roads’ procedure to execute the works.
- The guidelines will also target traffic modelling practitioners by providing technical guidance on the assumptions, inputs and outputs required to develop a robust model for their project purpose.
Auditing
- Aimsun Mesoscopic and Hybrid Model Audit Checklist - model checklist used by modeller and auditor for existing and proposed Aimsun models – this is required when a formal audit is carried out by Main Roads
- Visum Mesoscopic and Hybrid Model Audit Checklist - model checklist used by modeller and auditor for existing and proposed Visum models – this is required when a formal audit is carried out by Main Roads
- Vissim Mesoscopic and Hybrid Model Audit Checklist - model checklist used by modeller and auditor for existing and proposed Vissim models – this is required when a formal audit is carried out by Main Roads
