We aim to create safe road environments for all Western Australians and are committed to substantially reducing road trauma through the implementation of the Safe System principles.
The Safe System approach acknowledges that the road system must be more forgiving of driver error. Achieving this requires a collaborative, multi-agency and multi-government effort to address speed management, road infrastructure, and vehicle safety, while simultaneously enhancing driver behaviour through education and enforcement.
Crash analysis reveals that over 70% of serious accidents are caused by driver errors, rather than intentional risk-taking behaviours such as speeding or drink driving.
By continuously researching and evaluating our existing roads and potential projects, while integrating up-to-date road safety policies and guidelines, we are committed to adopting a comprehensive approach to planning and delivering safe, sustainable outcomes.
We conduct crash investigations, implement road safety programs, provide audit reporting resources, and apply the Road Safety Management System (ROSMA). Through these initiatives, we strive to achieve our vision that no one should lose their life or suffer serious injury on the State's road network.
