It's a Bridge!

Monumental construction milestone reached!
The Bunbury Outer Ring Road (BORR) project recently achieved a significant construction milestone, with the first set of 12 ‘tee-roff’ beams for the Raymond Road interchange installed across two days. ‘Tee-roff’ beams are pre-cast concrete shaped in the letter ‘T’ that provide a single span from the bridge abutment to the centre pier.

The installed beams each measure 26 meters long, 1.3 metres high and weigh more than 90 tonnes. The construction team used a 500 tonne all-terrain crane, with assistance from a support crane, to lift the beams into place. The experienced crew of riggers and crane operators guided the beams into the correct position, on elastomeric bridge bearings. The beams are supported by three curved hammerhead style piers in the centre (pictured below). These piers are a unique design and a first for the South West region.

The beams were produced in our purpose-built pre-cast yard in Picton East, which will produce a total of around 150 beams for the project.
The team will now commence fixing approximately 100 tonnes of reinforcement steel for the bridge deck. Following this, 350 cubic metres of concrete will be poured to enable further road construction.
