Grant Pronk, the Managing Director at GP Forestry, and his team have recently completed the next stage of seedling planting on BORR.
Grant’s crew have spent over a week planting a variety of local, native plants in specified locations along the alignment. Seedlings were planted across three sections with a total of 30 different native species being used. For those budding botanists amongst you, we’ve included a full list of the species planted at the bottom of this article. The seedlings ready to grow and bloom.
In addition to the variety of seedling species, a granular bio-stimulant named Bactivate was applied into the holes of each plant to increase rooting, boost growth and improve overall plant health.
As well as conducting seedling plantings, GP Forestry delivers a wide range of forestry advisory services, plantation management, and environmental restoration solutions and have been doing so for over 30 years.
GP Forestry is managed from Harvey with its planting team sourced from the Danju Aboriginal work group based locally in the Bunbury region. The team carrying out the BORR planting also included a number of members who graduated from our Yaka Dandjoo ready for work program. These graduates reflect some of the career-making opportunities available through the sustainable work initiative. GP Forestry has proudly been involved in utilising the available Aboriginal workforce for opportunities on the project.
“It has been great to be inducted by the team on BORR; The entire crew were very keen to get involved and really enjoyed the opportunities,” said Grant. “It’s fantastic to see the use of natural species as well. We all look forward to remaining involved on the project.”
