 Have you heard of FOGO?

Standing for Food Organics Garden Organics, FOGO diverts otherwise landfill-destined green waste to more environmentally friendly re-use in the form of mulch.

Soon, apart from having now heard of it, you’ll be able to see it as well.

In a new trial to combat the effects of erosion on BORR, a one-part FOGO and 10-parts mulch compost-cocktail is being applied to the tallest batters between South Western Highway (north) and Railway Road Bridge.

If this sustainable substance proves up to the challenge of preventing erosion, the mulch will settle and mature, allowing the planting of more native seedlings in the future.

Bunbury-local Chad Tilbrook is responsible for giving this waste new life. Sourced from the Council’s municipal collections, Chad and his team have expanded their business’s capabilities to turn this waste into high-quality landscaping products.

Using recycled mulch is a great way to improve sustainability and combat erosion,” Chad said. “Our business’s expansion into producing FOGO couldn’t have come at a better time and we’re excited to see it trialled on the BORR project.

Apart from helping reduce the threat of erosion on large-scale infrastructure projects, FOGO can be used by anyone, including home owners looking for sustainable fertiliser for their gardens.

If this innovative trial proves successful, Bunbury residents can look forward to driving past their own food and/or garden organics every time they take advantage of the new Bunbury Outer Ring Road.
