The planned Northampton Bypass will remove heavy vehicles from the Northampton townsite, and provide a more efficient freight route.

Various alignments were investigated when the planning was conducted in the early 2000s.

One of the key issues for the Local Government and businesses was access to passing trade.  With the planned option being to the east of town, it ensures tourist traffic can still pass through Northampton when travelling to the Northampton Kalbarri Road providing an opportunity for local businesses to capture passing trade.
