Marble Bar Road Upgrade

What's Happening

Works across all five sections of the project are progressing well.

Works are progressing well in Section 2A, with rock protection currently being installed at floodway’s. 12km of this 15km section has been primer sealed, with basecourse construction continuing on the remaining 3km.

Drainage and embankment works are continuing at the northern end of Section 2B, while subbase and basecourse works are underway at the southern end.

Primer-sealing of the full 22.95km of Section 3 has been completed. Final sealing works are planned to be carried out in March 2026

Basecourse works are ongoing along the 7.64km length of Section 4. With 1km of primer sealing completed to date.

The 29km Section 5 continues to progress well, with drainage, embankment, blasting, subbase and basecourse activities underway in various locations of the alignment.

Blasting works are also being carried out in Section 5, between the McPhee Mine Site and Nullagine. Blasting activities will be undertaken through to June 2026.

Road Closure

The road will be closed for either one hour between 1pm and 5pm daily, or for longer periods of up to nine hours between 8am and 5pm, to ensure safety of road users and workers and will reopen as soon as safe to do so. Please allow extra travel time, follow traffic management directions and obey all signage.

The overall project includes widening of the carriageway, improving drainage and surfacing with a two-coat bituminous seal to enhance the road surface.

The new road will improve road safety and serviceability and provide better connectivity and accessibility for local and regional traffic.
