In consultation with the community, we're developing solutions to improve safety on Caves Road.

Caves Road with Trees and Road sign

What's happening

Main Roads will re-engage with the community in the coming months to plan further initiatives to improve safety on Caves Road.

Our routine vegetation maintenance program for 2024/25 is underway between Caves Road (Abbey) to the Hamelin Bay turn-off and will include:

  • Pruning vegetation which obscures sightlines (from driveways and intersections) and/or hangs into traffic lanes (to accommodate higher vehicles such as caravans and trucks);
  • Monitoring dead and/or dangerous trees that may fall onto the road, including those impacted by storms, to determine pruning requirements; and
  • Removing woody weeds.

Traffic management including speed reductions and the use of ‘Stop-Go’ signs will be in place for the duration of work. Road users are encouraged to slow down, allow extra time for their journey and obey the directions of traffic controllers.

This work is being completed with environmental requirements in place including fauna spotters onsite, checking Heritage listed areas and adhering to dieback practices.
