Bussell Highway is a key route connecting coastal communities between Bunbury, Margaret River and beyond, and is a significant inter-regional tourist route.
Residential developments, commercial precincts and schools are adjacent to the highway, with further development expected to increase traffic on the network. The highway is also an important link for agricultural and other industries.
When the Busselton Bypass was completed in December 2000, a Road Reserve was set aside to allow for two lanes in each direction.
Previous work on the Busselton Bypass included construction of a roundabout at Fairway Drive to improve safety. Completed in 2019, the project provided safer access to and from the bypass, and removed the risk of right angle crashes in and out of Fairway Drive.
