West Coast Highway Intersection Upgrades

Oceanic Drive

• Extending the northbound right turn lane on West Coast Highway
• Modifying the lane configuration on Oceanic Drive westbound to provide two right-turn lanes and one through lane
• New mast arm signals north and south of the intersection on West Coast highway, for improved visibility
• Modifying the traffic signals to remove the filter movements and allow right turns only under green arrow control
• CCTV camera
• Resurfacing, drainage, kerbing, signs and line-marking

The Boulevard

• Extending the right and left turn lanes on West Coast Highway
• New mast arm signals north and south of the intersection on West Coast highway, for improved visibility
• Resurfacing, drainage, kerbing, signs and line-marking

Hale Rd

• Almost doubling the length of the right turn lane on West Coast Highway northbound
• Building a new pedestrian crossing south of the extended right turn lane
• New mast arm signals north and south of the intersection on West Coast highway, for improved visibility
• Drainage, kerbing, signs and line-marking
• CCTV camera

 

These three intersections have historically recorded a high number of rear-end and right turn crashes, when compared to the network average.

Between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2024, there were:

• 37 crashes at Oceanic Drive. Almost two-thirds were rear-end crashes while eight were right turn through crashes. About one-third of these crashes resulted in medical treatment or hospitalisation.
• 24 crashes at The Boulevard. Almost half of these were rear-end crashes and one-third were right turn through crashes. Half of these crashes resulted in a medical incident.
• 44 crashes at Hale Road. Half were rear-end crashes and one third were right turn through crashes. Almost half of these crashes resulted in medical treatment or hospitalisation.
