Wanneroo Road, Yanchep Beach Road and Indian Ocean Drive Intersection Upgrade

The intersection of Wanneroo Road, Yanchep Beach Road and Indian Ocean Drive will be signalised to improve safety for approaching vehicles, with particular benefit for those entering and exiting Yanchep Beach Road.

On Indian Ocean Drive southbound, the existing right-turn lane will be extended to provide more space for vehicles to slow down safely before turning.

On Wanneroo Road northbound, a section of road south of the intersection will be raised to improve visibility for approaching and turning vehicles.

Additional improvements will include new street lighting, advanced warning flashing signs, drainage works, and the installation of a CCTV camera.  

The Wanneroo Road, Yanchep Beach Road and Indian Ocean Drive intersection is currently an unsignalised T-junction, with dedicated left and right-turning lanes on Wanneroo Road and Indian Ocean Drive.

Poor visibility due to the existing road geometry, combined with vehicles travelling above the posted speed limit, has contributed to the ongoing safety issues. More than 13,000 vehicles travel through the intersection daily, of which more than 6.5 per cent are heavy vehicles.

In the five years to 31 December 2025, there were 24 reported crashes at the intersection. Four required hospitalisation, 12 needed medical attention, and eight resulted in property damage.

Several interim safety treatments, including speed-reduction signs and rumble strips, have been installed to help slow traffic on approach to the intersection.

The project has been funded for construction through Main Roads’ Metropolitan Intersection Crash Program.
