What's happening
We’re upgrading two sections of the Mitchell Freeway Principal Shared Path (PSP), between Leederville and Northbridge.
Stage 1, between Richmond Street and Vincent Street, has already been completed and is now open. Stage 2, between Loftus Street and Aberdeen Street, will get underway in early May and is expected to re-open by mid-2026.
For the safety of all riders and walkers, the PSP must remain closed while this work is undertaken. View the detour map for the Stage 2 closure between Loftus Street and Aberdeen Street below. This detour will remain in place 24/7 until project completion.
With more people using the detour routes on bikes, e‑bikes, e‑scooters and on foot, please look out for each other and keep our shared paths friendly and safe.
Road users and residents along the detour routes are also asked to take extra care, as there will be additional cyclists and pedestrians on the roads and paths during this time.
We are widening and resurfacing two sections of path to improve the surface for walkers and riders.
Stage 1 (Complete): Between Richmond Street and Vincent Street (300 metres)
Stage 2 (Early May to mid-2026): Between Loftus Street and Aberdeen Street (780 metres)
Each section is being upgraded at one time to avoid major disruption to path users. When completed, the upgraded path will also include new line marking and signage.
