What's Happening

To ensure the continued operation of the bridge, maintenance work is needed on and below the bridge deck. This work includes:

  • Replacing guardrails and balustrades.
  • Path and asphalt repairs
  • installation of new steel piles, clad with timber from the existing piles to respect the bridges heritage status.

For safety reasons, there may be minor detours or stop/slow traffic management on the Principal Shared Path (PSP) adjacent to the river foreshore. Road users should expect lane closures and speed reductions during these activities.

The contract has been awarded to Jomar WA, with works due to commence mid-2026.

Scope

Majority of the work will be undertaken below the bridge, from vessels located within the river channels. To respect the bridge’s heritage status, new steel piles will be installed then clad with timber from the existing piles. Minor detours or traffic management on the PSP adjacent to the river foreshare may be in place to ensure pedestrian safety.

On the bridge deck, we will be repairing or replacing guardrails and balustrades, as well as path and asphalt repairs. Works on the bridge deck are likely to be undertaken after hours to avoid traffic congestion.
