Stephenson Avenue Extension Project Asbestos Management - Update 25 October 2024

Asbestos Management Update

The S2ME Alliance will shortly be removing a significant volume of stockpiled material from the stockpile areas to a suitably licenced offsite waste facility. It is expected the removal of the material will be undertaken from late October 2024 until late December 2024.

The project is working closely with a Contaminated Sites Auditor (CSA) and relevant government agencies to ensure the removal of stockpiled material is undertaken safely and poses minimal risk to the community and the workforce.

Material will be removed from the stockpiles by loaders and loaded into trucks for transportation to the licenced facility.

Appropriate safety and risk management measures will be followed to protect the community and workforce during the movement and disposal of the stockpile material, by licensed waste carriers. Measures include:

  • Regular application of water or dust suppression polymer on the material
  • Ongoing washing of tyres / wheels
  • Ensuring loads are covered prior to truck movement on local roads
  • Road sweepers placed on standby should material be tracked onto the local road network
  • Ongoing monitoring of dust and airborne asbestos fibres

Haulage vehicles will take the most direct route in order to minimise the distance travelled on local roads and through residential areas.

Removal of the materials will occur Monday to Saturday from 7am to 7pm in accordance with a City of Stirling-approved Noise and Vibration Management Plan. Nearby residents may notice an increase in trucks accessing local roads.
