Our last update outlined a staged recommencement of works, which has started west of Mitchell Freeway at the casting yard for Stephenson Avenue bridge, and in the Freeway median.

This week we have restarted works to the east of Mitchell Freeway, at the casting yard for the Stirling Station bus bridge and will progressively open up other work areas as we receive clearances from industrial hygiene experts.

Stockpile areas remain as exclusion zones while sampling continues.

In our last update we confirmed asbestos containing material was found in bonded form, a form that is likely to be low risk. Soil samples continue to return results below the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) health and environmental, thresholds, including asbestos fibres. Airborne asbestos monitoring results continue to indicate no evidence of airborne asbestos to date.

This means that the risk to community remains low.

We will continue to work closely with DWER and have engaged a contaminated sites auditor and industrial hygienists to undertake ongoing assessments and support the management of the site.

Precautionary mitigation measures continue to be implemented including dust and airborne asbestos monitoring and the application of dust suppression polymer.

The health and wellbeing of the community and our workers is our priority, and we will continue to implement mitigation measures for the remainder of the project.
