What's happening

We’re upgrading two sections of the Mitchell Freeway Principal Shared Path (PSP), between Leederville and Northbridge.

Construction will be undertaken from 23 March and should be completed by mid-2026.

During works, the sections of the PSP being upgraded will be closed and detours will be in place. View the detour map for the Stage 1 closure between Richmond Street and Vincent Street below. The Stage 1 detour will be in place until late April 2026.

With more people using the detour routes on bikes, e‑bikes, e‑scooters and on foot, please look out for each other and keep our shared paths friendly and safe.

Road users and residents along the detour routes are also asked to take extra care, as there will be additional cyclists and pedestrians on the roads and paths during this time.

Scope

We are widening and resurfacing two sections of path to improve the surface for walkers and riders.

Stage 1 (March to April 2026): Between Richmond Street and Vincent Street (300 metres)
Stage 2 (April to mid-2026): Between Loftus Street and Aberdeen Street (780 metres)

Each section is being upgraded at one time to avoid major disruption to path users. When completed, the upgraded path will also include new line marking and signage.
