HVS Update 8-2026

Updated Multi-Loading Policy

Main Roads Heavy Vehicle Services (HVS) is pleased to advise we have updated our Multi-Loading Policy, reflected in our Guidelines for Transporting Multiple Items on an Oversize or Over-mass Vehicle, as part of our ongoing efforts to improve efficiencies for the transport industry.

The key changes to the Guidelines are as follows:

  1. The previous 19 metre restriction when loading multiple items front to back on a prime mover and semi-trailer combination, including a low loader, has been removed. Multiple items can now be loaded front to back, provided the trailer's length has been reduced to the smallest possible dimension and all items remain within the confines of the trailer length.

  2. A new provision has been included to allow a low loader to carry multiple items of any type, provided:
    • The low loader is reduced to the smallest possible dimension; and

    • The vehicle combination does not consist of a low loader dolly; and

    • The vehicle combination does not exceed the mass limits in the following table:
       Multi-Loading table
    • If the vehicle combination exceeds statutory mass limits on the drive axle group and/or trailer axle group, the operator must be accredited under the WA Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme for Mass Management.

The updated Guidelines for Transporting Multiple Items on an Oversize or Over-mass Vehicle are available on the Main Roads website.
