HVS Update 21-2025

Wheatbelt Region - Burakin - Downgrading RAV Access on Dowerin-Kalannie Road

Please be advised that safety assessments carried out by Main Roads Heavy Vehicle Services (HVS) has identified inadequate stacking distance for Restricted Access Vehicles (RAVs) at the level crossing on Dowerin-Kalannie Road in Burakin.

As a result, HVS will be downgrading RAV access as follows.

The following 36.5m RAV Networks will be removed from the section of Dowerin-Kalannie Road, between Burakin-Wialki Road and Reid Road:

  • Tandem Drive Network 5
  • AMMS Tandem Drive Network 5.1
  • Oversize Divisible Products Network 5

The following length restriction will be applied to the intersection of Dowerin-Kalannie Road & Burakin-Wialki Road on all approved 27.5m RAV Networks:

"Combinations exceeding 25 metres in length must not cross the Burakin level crossing, adjacent to the Dowerin-Kalannie Road & Burakin-Wialki Road intersection."

Main Roads will implement the above changes on Wednesday 24 September 2025, which will be reflected in the relevant Road Tables and RAV Mapping Tool on our website from that date.

Local farmers or operators with individual RAV access needs impacted by the above changes should contact the HVS Helpdesk on 138 486 and ask to speak to a Route Assessment Team member or email hvsrouteassessments@mainroads.wa.gov.au for further assistance.
