PBS Vehicle Design Approval
To introduce a vehicle outside the scope of an existing permit product, you must seek approval for the PBS vehicle design.
To obtain a WA PBS Vehicle Design Approval, you will need to engage an NHVR approved PBS assessor, to complete a full PBS assessment of the vehicle design. All PBS vehicle designs must be assessed in accordance with the WA Performance Based Standards (PBS) Scheme - Standards and Vehicle Assessment Rules.
Once completed, the PBS Assessor is required to provide us the PBS assessment results by submitting both the WA Performance Based Standards (PBS) Scheme Assessment Results (Part A) and the WA Performance Based Standard (PBS) Scheme Vehicle Specifications (Part B).
We will review the assessment results (Part A and Part B) to ensure all the required PBS standards for the vehicle design have been met. If all the required PBS standards are met, we will issue a WA PBS Vehicle Design Approval and the vehicle can then be built in accordance with the approved design.
In Principal Approval
Prior to engaging a PBS Assessor, you may first wish to obtain an WA PBS In Principle Vehicle Design Approval from us, to ensure your proposed vehicle design and required level of access will be approved. All applications for an In Principle approval will be assessed in accordance with the WA Performance Based Standards (PBS) Scheme - Access Levels and Principles.
If approved, a WA PBS In Principle Vehicle Design Approval will be issued to the vehicle design owner, which will specify approved access, maximum mass limits and any other relevant conditions.
