PBS Vehicle Certification

Prior to a PBS vehicle being approved to operate in WA it must first be certified.

Once an approved vehicle has been built and is ready to be put into service, it must be certified to ensure it has been built in accordance with the relevant WA PBS Vehicle Design Approval.

The vehicle manufacturer, the vehicle dealer or the transport operator must certify the vehicle in accordance with the WA Performance Based Standards (PBS) Scheme - Vehicle Certification Rules. The WA Performance Based Standards (PBS) Scheme - Vehicle Certification Guidelines assist the vehicle manufacturer, the vehicle dealer or the transport operator in conducting the vehicle certification.

Upon certifying a PBS vehicle, Certifiers are declaring the necessary inspections have been conducted and auditable records of evidence have been maintained, demonstrating the vehicle meets all the required specifications in the WA PBS Vehicle Specifications (Part B) form and Vehicle Design Approval.

Vehicles Certified by the Vehicle Manufacturer or Vehicle Dealer

If the vehicle has been certified by the vehicle manufacturer or vehicle dealer, they will need to apply to have the vehicle added to their Manufacturer’s Certification Approval, by submitting the WA PBS Manufacturer's Vehicle Certification Application, which includes a declaration that they have completed the vehicle certification and have auditable records of evidence.

The transport operator then simply needs to refer to the relevant Manufacturer’s Certification Approval, when submitting their WA PBS Vehicle Certification Application to have the certified vehicle added to their Vehicle Certification Approval.

Vehicles Certified by the Transport Operator

If the vehicle has been certified by the transport operator, they need to apply to have the vehicle added to their Vehicle Certification Approval by submitting the WA PBS Vehicle Certification Application, which includes a declaration that they have completed the vehicle certification and have auditable records of evidence.
