Infrastructure Sustainability Council

At Main Roads, we have adopted the Infrastructure Sustainability rating scheme and apply it to our projects during the development (planning), design and construction phases.

The Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) is a not-for-profit peak organisation that aims to deliver sustainable infrastructure across both Australia and New Zealand. At Main Roads, we have adopted the Infrastructure Sustainability rating scheme and apply it to our projects during the development (planning), design and construction phases.

We have a corporate commitment that our planning projects must achieve at least a Bronze IS rating, while our construction projects must achieve a minimum Silver IS rating for both the design and as-built phases. We currently have 18 projects registered with ISC, all of which are at different phases. All projects valued over $100 million are registered with ISC to achieve a rating.

We are also currently partnering with ISC to trial the IS Essentials Tool which is a refined rating scheme for projects valued between $5 million to $99 million. Five projects within Main Roads were chosen to pilot the Tool and are progressing at various rates.

More information about the IS Rating Scheme can be found here.
