The Lukin Drive underpass

Lukin Drive underpass - artwork 2.JPG

The Lukin Drive underpass was designed by Minaxi May from drawings by Year 6 students at a local school

The design process started with Year 6 students from Butler Primary School sketching from memory the local Neerabup National Park. Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) inspired students with dreamtime stories and plant samples. The emu, black cockatoo, grass tree and banksia were included in the design as important species to the local area. Workshops were completed with the students as part of their Year 6 curriculum during regular class time by Minaxi and the art teacher.

The drawings were then refined by adding shape and three colours, and scanned and scaled into a mural. There was a focus on flora and fauna for east side of underpass. The west side included the coastline and sea creatures were added.
