 Bridge Abutments

Welshpool, and this intersection in particular, is known for its complexes of silo towers. These silos store feed products for poultry and agricultural industries. It was also important to recognise Welshpool as one of the main industrial areas of Perth. At the time of construction, the largest industries in Welshpool related to service transport and the distribution of goods - generally by road.

Saw-tooth factory roof lines and repetition in building forms are a feature of the Welshpool built environment. The artwork theme for the bridge is layered. It is inspired by the site, transport, rhythms of warehousing and industry, and reinforces the important role that roads play. Design elements include:

  • The tread of tyres
  • Transport, industrial repetition and warehousing
  • Saw-tooth factory roof lines
  • Repetition in building forms, including brick facades.

The colours were chosen to conceptually link local industry and the colour palettes of other noisewalls and bridges along Leach Highway.
