Colour has now been added to the first of Main Roads’ Stephenson Avenue Extension project’s artwork, featuring designs by Noongar artists David Jones and Kamsani Bin Salleh in collaboration with Mark Datodi.

The artwork in the image below is inspired by stories from Elders of their lived experiences and interaction with the lake systems and waterways in the area. Designs will be painted on each of the 9 metre high, 200-metre-long retaining walls, located on both sides of the Mitchell Freeway.

You will continue to see more of the project’s infrastructure display colour as the painters move onto the bridge abutments of the new Stephenson Avenue Bridge where patterns of the kooyar (frog) are a key feature.
