HVS Update 52-2023

Mid West Gascoyne Region - Local access condition added to the RAV Networks on Indian Ocean Drive between Jurien Bay and Brand Highway

Please be advised that Main Roads Heavy Vehicle Services (HVS) is adding the following local access condition to all Restricted Access Vehicle (RAV) Networks, on the northern section of Indian Ocean Drive (M045), between Murray Street in Jurien Bay and the Brand Highway intersection:

  • "This section of road is approved to local properties located on this section of road, for the purpose of picking up goods, delivering goods or garaging vehicles. Drivers must carry documentation as proof of local delivery, pickup or garaging address. This section of road must not be used as a through route, except to access other roads only accessible via this section of road."

Our Mid-West Gascoyne Region has requested this change to align with the existing access conditions on the other sections of Indian Ocean Drive where RAV Network access is approved. Furthermore, Indian Ocean Drive is a key tourist route and should not be used as a through route for RAVs.

Operators are also reminded of the current speed restriction that applies to all RAV Networks on Indian Ocean Drive, requiring all RAV Network vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 80 km/h.

HVS will implement the above change on Wednesday 20 December 2023, which will be reflected in the relevant Road Tables and RAV Mapping Tool on our website from that date.

For further information, please contact the Heavy Vehicle Helpdesk on 138 486 or email hvs@mainroads.wa.gov.au.
