Main Roads WA Adopts RCMS WA for Enhanced Road Safety & Heavy Vehicle Information

Main Roads Western Australia has taken a significant step towards improving road safety by partnering with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s (NHVR) and Motorola to deliver the Regulatory Compliance Mobility Solution WA (RCMS WA) app.

The RCMS WA app allows transport inspectors to target high-risk offenders, access a central database of driver and vehicle information, and issue both digital and hard copy notices on-site. This real-time solution aims to reduce the time spent on intercepts by up to 60%, with a strong focus on improving safety and efficiency.

Western Australia Transport Minister Rita Saffioti welcomed the new technology, stating, "We know that the majority of the heavy vehicle industry is safe and compliant, and it's only a small cohort of high-risk operators that put themselves and the community at risk. By leveraging this app, Main Roads WA can focus on repeat offenders and improve safety on our roads."

The RCMS WA app also allows collaboration between WA and the NHVR, enabling cross-border cooperation to address unsafe, high-risk operators travelling between WA and the eastern states, and vice versa.

NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto OAM emphasized the importance of the RCMS WA app, noting, “With over 115 fixed cameras across Australia feeding into the system, we can quickly identify unregistered vehicles, defect notices, and compliance breaches."

RCMS WA is now being used by Main Roads transport inspectors to access real-time heavy vehicle analytics during roadside inspections.
