Main Roads is proud to release Main Roads Circular Economy Plan. This plan represents our long-term commitment to not only minimising environmental impact from our infrastructure materials needs, but it is in line with global efforts to address the climate crisis and ensure long term sustainable development.

Australia’s Circular Economy Framework aims to double our national circularity rate by 2035; this includes recovering 80% of our resources. The built environment, including road infrastructure, is recognised for its potential to increase circularity and resource recovery.

Further, the Government of Western Australia’s Beyond WAste 2030 Roadmap aims to increase Construction and Demolition waste recycling to 80% in the next five years.

Our Circular Economy Plan lays out a comprehensive strategy to embed circular principles across our organisation and operations. With an initial focus on key Priority Materials, we can increase not only the recycled content of our infrastructure but also its durability, as we take a whole-of-life approach to the materials we use and the practices we engage in.

Our Circular Economy Framework paves the way for the Actions and Opportunities Program that maps our implementation of circular economy principles over the next five years.
