The National Level Crossing Safety Committee (NLCSC) brings together representatives from federal, state, and local governments, regulators and peak
industry bodies to deliver the National Level Crossing Safety Program. The NLCSC is committed to reducing fatalities and incidents at level crossings nationwide through its primary strategic objective of Vision Zero, and through a nationally consistent and collaborative approach to level crossing safety across Australia, taking action at a national level to help prevent injuries and deaths at railway level crossings.

Don’t Risk the Rails is brought to you by the National Level Crossing Safety Committee through the collaboration of key stakeholders, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator and the Australian Trucking Association.

The campaign reminds road users to take extra care at level crossings, and that no shortcut, distraction, or moment of impatience is worth risking a collision with a train at one of more than 20,000 level crossings across the country.

Don't Risk the Rails is the realisation of a key initiative of the National Level Crossing Safety Strategy Work Plan and was a recommendation arising from the National Level Crossing Safety Roundtable.

The Roundtable was convened after a tragic collision between a B-double truck and a fully laden freight train at a level crossing in Bindarrah, South Australia, on New Year’s Eve 2024. The crash claimed the lives of both train drivers.
