What's happening
Work commenced in 2023 to upgrade the internal road network in Western Australia’s most populous Aboriginal remote community at Bidyadanga.
In collaboration with the Karajarri Traditional Lands Association (KTLA), Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community La Grange Inc (BACLGI), Department of Communities and the Shire of Broome, we’ve been developing maintenance and improvement works for the internal roads in Bidyadanga.
Work is being completed in phases, with maintenance work underway. We’re now working to define the scope for 2024.
Phase One (substantially completed) – repair and maintenance of road network
- Repair pavement failures (2,100m2)
- Sweeping and repaired seals on internal roads
- Reseal internal roads (in progress, due for completion after the 2024 wet season)
- Maintenance grade of the road to the tip
- Excavation of a new waste hole at the tip
Phase Two – 2024 (scope to be confirmed) – maintenance and improvement
- Construction and sealing of some new roads in the community
- Sealing of parking facilities
- Installation of new speed bumps, crossovers, and upgrade of footpaths
- Repair of damaged kerbing
- Maintenance of existing drainage infrastructure
Phase Three and Four – additional improvement work
- Further consultation regarding the scope is planned to progress in 2025, subject to allocation of additional funding.
