What's happening

Thanks for your feedback

Between 24 June and 25 July 2023, we asked for feedback on the proposed new Great Eastern Highway Bypass and Kalamunda Road Interchange to help inform our planning and shape development of design options.

We heard from a diverse cross section of the community who shared their feedback and ideas, including potential improvements. The feedback received was substantial in detail, describing concerns and ideas for consideration by the project team.

The feedback identified three key themes as being priority considerations for the local community as follows:

  • Maintain local access - maintaining access to Kalamunda Road via Barker Road and maintaining access to the Guildford Cemetery.
  • Environmental heritage and protection – preservation of bushland, minimising removal of vegetation, replanting of shrubs & trees along the roadside, and protecting cultural heritage.
  • Pedestrian and cyclist access - shared paths that keep cyclists and pedestrians separate from traffic (particularly heavy vehicles), extension of the shared path network along Kalamunda Road, and safe pedestrian crossings.

You can read the full Community Feedback Report.

Your feedback will inform development and selection of a preferred design concept for the new interchange that considers what is important to the local community and balances the needs of road users, local businesses and residents. We plan to confirm and share the preferred design concept with the community in late 2022. At this time, we will provide the community with an opportunity to view design concept plans, ask questions, and provide further feedback.

Planning and development

The Kalamunda Road bridge over the freight line is undergoing detailed design. This will continue throughout 2022 and into early 2023.

Planning and development of the Great Eastern Highway Bypass and Kalamunda Road interchange is at an early stage. Site investigation work is currently underway to inform the initial design. In the coming year, we will be engaging with stakeholders and the community as the design is developed.
