HVS Update 07-2025

Heavy Lift Tow Truck (HLTT) Update

Main Roads Heavy Vehicle Services (HVS) has been liaising with heavy lift towing industry representatives to work through concerns raised in relation to the revised Heavy Lift Tow Truck Period Permit Operating Conditions that came into effect in July 2023.

With a focus on road safety and road infrastructure protection, HVS has modified a number of requirements and the Heavy Lift Tow Truck Period Permit Operating Conditions have been amended accordingly.

Negotiations with industry have concluded and the updated Heavy Lift Tow Truck Period Permit Operating Conditions are now published on the Heavy Lift Tow Trucks page on our website.

In addition, we have introduced a new permit for Heavy Lift Tow Semi-Trailers, which are now approved to operate in Western Australia. The Heavy Lift Tow Semi-Trailer Period Permit Operating Conditions are also available on the Heavy Lift Tow Trucks page on our website.

A final extension to the moratorium relating to the loading control requirements under the Heavy Lift Tow Truck Period Permit Operating Conditions is approved until 30 June 2025 to enable all Heavy Lift Tow Truck operators sufficient time to comply.
