Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Main Roads is committed to increase the representation of diversity groups and foster a truly representative workforce by providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture.

Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Framework outlines the structure that supports our DEI journey and details our commitment statement, governance structure and the principles we have adopted.

We have eight diversity focus areas, each with its own Diversity Reference Group (DRG) led by an Executive Advocate and Champion. Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council sits above these groups, ensuring a consistent and coordinated approach that recognises and considers the impacts of intersectionality.

We have been recognised by Diversity Council Australia (DCA) as an Inclusive Employer for 2024-25 for our action and commitment to inclusion.

The Inclusive Employer Index is an annual survey developed by DCA in partnership with Diversity Atlas to measure employee diversity and inclusion experiences in the workplace. Participating in the Index enabled us to evaluate the current state of inclusion of our workforce and compare it to the Australian workforce and DCA member benchmarks.

The results of our survey showed that we exceeded the National Index Benchmark across all 6 measures of (1) awareness for D&I action, (2) engagement with D&I action, (3) inclusive organisational climate, (4) inclusive leadership, (5) inclusive team, and (6) exclusion.
