South Western Highway
Brookhampton Road to Tassone Road

From 2014 to 2019, there were six reported crashes on South Western Highway between Brookhampton Road and Tassone Road.
Funding has been allocated to improve road safety on this section of highway, which has two tight curves and steep grades. It also has substandard vertical and horizontal geometry that take it around the highest part of Thompson Hill. Around 3,000 vehicles per day use this section of road.
Realignment of the curves will provide a straighter and flatter road to address the current safety concerns posed by the steep hill and the roadside drop-off.
We will also:
- widen the seal
- provide space for road users to safely pass on the left of vehicles turning right from South Western Highway into local roads
- improve clear zones
- add passing lanes
- revegetate a larger area than has been cleared for the road, including part of the original road, once works are complete
