Coolgardie Esperance Highway Upgrade

Emu Rocks

A 30 kilometre section between Widgiemooltha and Kambalda will be upgraded in early 2021.
Regional Coolgardie Esperance highway next to trees

Coolgardie-Esperance Highway at Emu Rocks forms part of the Perth-Adelaide route on the National Land Transport Network.

It is also the major freight route through the Goldfields Esperance Region, with around 2 million tonnes carted on the route each year. Approximately 34 per cent of all traffic on this section is heavy vehicles and 11 per cent caravans.

To upgrade the 30 km section at Emu Rocks, we plan to:

  • Reconstruct and realign the road
  • Widen and seal the shoulders
  • Construct passing lanes
  • Add line marking and audio tactile edge lines
  • Upgrade intersections
  • Relocate services
  • Upgrade and replace culverts
