Bussell Highway Improvements

We’re upgrading the road on Bussell Highway north of Cowaramup to improve safety and reduce the risk of rear-end crashes.

We are progressing a project to upgrade a small section of the Bussell Highway, north of the Cowaramup townsite to improve safety for road users who are currently exposed to roadside hazards.

The upgrade will increase the road width, providing two 3.5 m lanes with 1.5 m to 2 m sealed shoulders on each side of the existing road. The sealed shoulders will also provide safer on-road cycling.

We have completed several upgrades across the South West region, which involved constructing sealed shoulders to improve road environments similar to this one. This is the last section of Bussell Highway between Busselton and Augusta to have 1.5 m to 2 m sealed shoulders provided.

In addition to increasing the road width, we will also :

  • Provide sealed shoulders on Bussell Highway north of Cowaramup between Treeton Road and Peake Street
  • Provide a dedicated right hand turn from Bussell Highway into Treeton Road
  • Install a 1.5 to 2 metre sealed shoulder along this section of Bussell Highway
