Hay Street Bridge

The bridge height over Mitchell Freeway has been increased to minimise the risk of being hit by oversized vehicles. Work is expected to be completed in November 2020.
Hay Street Bridge construction

Hay Street Bridge was built over Mitchell Freeway southbound in 1968. It no longer meets today’s bridge height clearance standards. Trucks have hit the bridge nine times in the past five years.

This project will address this issue by:

  • Increasing the bridge height by 250mm
  • Replacing a 21m long section with a new raised section
  • Adding a bridge protection beam
