Charles Street Upgrade

Green Street/Walcott Street to Wanneroo Road/Wiluna Street

We’re upgrading the busy section of Charles Street in Joondana to improve safety and ease congestion. Roadworks began in March and will finish in August 2020.

Overview

To reduce the potential for crashes at this intersection, we are going to work on the following:

  • Changing the signals so vehicles turning right from Charles Street into Walcott Street and Green Street will only do so under dedicated green arrow control
  • Installing a traffic signal mast-arm at Wiluna Street to improve visibility of the signals and reduce potential for rear-end crashes
  • Widening Charles Street and reducing the median width to extend existing right-turn pockets
  • Extending exisiting turning lanes at Wanneroo Road southbound at Wiluna and modifying turning lanes at both intersections
  • Modifying intersection alignments to improve safety for all road users
  • Upgrading pedestrian crossing facilities for vulnerable road users
