Congdon Street Bridge Replacement

Replace the ageing timber bridge over Swanbourne Station. Development works are underway, however funding is not available for construction.
Congdon Bridge before construction

Used by about 3,000 vehicles per day, Congdon Street Bridge is expensive to maintain and has reached the end of its design and service life.

Replacing the 109-year-old timber bridge with a modern structure will ensure it meets current safety and access standards, as well as clearance requirements for the Public Transport Authority’s (PTA) rail line.

We considered four bridge alignment options to reconstruct the ageing bridge and used community consultation to identify local issues and preferences.

Key stakeholders, including PTA and Towns of Cottesloe and Claremont, have now reached agreement on a preferred bridge alignment option for further development.

We expect development works to end by mid-2020. This will ensure we are prepared when construction funding becomes available.
