High Street Upgrade

Stirling Highway to Carrington Street

Journey times are smoother by eliminating delays at the High Street and Stirling Highway intersection.

The project is officially complete, providing safer, more efficient access for motorists headed to Fremantle and for heavy vehicles accessing the port.

Traffic signals at High Street and Stirling Highway have been replaced with a roundabout, which includes bypass lanes to separate local traffic from traffic heading to or from Fremantle Port or locations north of the river.

The project also included a series of important safety improvements, including separation of eastbound and westbound traffic through a mature tree-lined median, which also provides an attractive gateway into Fremantle.

Landscaping Update

In winter 2022, 1,709 new trees were planted in the project area. The new vegetation comprises proven native species that are endemic to the Swan Coastal Plain. This is complemented by selected species from the Wildflower Capital Initiative to provide flower colour and foliage texture within the landscape. Planting has comprised a mix of tube stock and larger specimens of up to 35 litres where appropriate. The planting program will recommence in winter 2023 to give newly-planted trees the optimum chance of success. This will include feature planting at the High Street and Stirling Highway roundabout.
