HVS Update 22-2019

Block Truck requirement on Bindoon Hill & Little Bindoon Hill – Great Northern Highway

The recent high temperatures have resulted in considerable damage to the road seal on the steep gradients on Great Northern Highway, namely Bindoon Hill and Little Bindoon Hill.

As such, effective immediately, the following conditions now apply to the Oversize / Overmass (OSOM) vehicles when traversing Bindoon Hill and Little Bindoon Hill.

When the ambient temperature reaches 35°C or above, an OSOM vehicle must be connected to the minimum number of block trucks stipulated below:

  • Gross mass >128.5 ≤170 tonnes – 1 additional block truck;
  • Gross mass >170 ≤245 tonnes – 2 additional block trucks;
  • Gross mass >245 tonnes – 3 additional block trucks or as assessed.
All block trucks must have a minimum of 14 tonnes on a tandem drive axle group or 17 tonnes on a tri drive axle group.
