The Armadale Road to North Lake Road Bridge project was a big winner at the Master Builders-Bankwest Excellence in Construction Awards.

The Armadale Access Alliance, comprising Laing O’Rourke and BG&E, in partnership with Main Roads, picked up two awards in the categories of:

  • Construction on a challenging site
  • Best Civil Engineering works

The project delivered five new bridge structures and two pedestrian underpasses in a highly congested area. This included WA’s first ‘duck and dive’ intersection. In total, 54 bridge beams were lifted across the project and 13 trapezoidal precast concrete sections were installed for the underpasses. The works were carried within the Cockburn Central area that has 55,000 vehicles passing through per day, and across Kwinana Freeway and the Mandurah Line, presenting numerous complexities.

The awards are a reflection of the meticulous planning, works staging and stakeholder collaboration, which resulted in a high quality final product delivered on time and budget, with minimal impacts to the community.

Well done to all involved!
