  • both the front and rear if it exceeds 2.5 metres in width or 25 metres in length; or
  • the rear only if it does not exceed 2.5 metres in width, and is between 22 and 25 metres in length.

Full details of signage requirements can be found in the Class 1 RAV Oversize Period Permit Operating Conditions or on your single trip permit.

An Oversize B-double exceeding 2.5 metres in width is required to display an Oversize sign on both the front and rear, as well as a Long Vehicle sign on the rear.

Other Oversize Combinations

Signage requirements for all oversize combinations are stipulated in the permit operating conditions. Generally, a vehicle combination that exceeds 2.5 metres in width will require an Oversize sign on both the front and rear, in addition to any other warning sign that the vehicle combination would normally be required to display if operating within the 2.5 metres width limit, ie. a Long Vehicle or Road Train sign.

Long Vehicles

A Long Vehicle (or road train) between 22 and 30 metres in length with one or more dog trailers must display either a Long Vehicle sign on the rear, or a Road Train sign on both the front and rear.

A Long Vehicle (or a road train) between 22 and 36.5 metres in length that does not have a dog trailer must display either a Long Vehicle sign on the rear, or a Road Train sign on both the front and rear.

A Long Vehicle combination between 22 and 36.5 metres in length that is not covered by the above must display a Long Vehicle sign on the rear.

Road Trains

A Road Train over 30 metres in length that has one or more dog trailers must display a Road Train sign on both the front and rear.

Any vehicle combination over 36.5 metres in length must display a Road Train sign on both the front and rear.

NOTE: A vehicle must not display a warning sign unless the vehicle requires a warning sign. It is an offence to display a warning sign when not required.
