The Intelligent Access Program (IAP) is a national program administered by Transport Certification Australia (TCA) and developed in partnership with all Australian road agencies that uses satellite tracking and wireless communication technology to remotely monitor where, when and how heavy vehicles are being operated on the road network.
The IAP provides heavy vehicles with improved access to the Australian road network in return for monitoring compliance with specific access conditions. This is done using vehicle telematics - a way of monitoring a vehicle using global positioning.
IAP whilst not mandatory in Western Australia is being utilised to provide greater access to existing and higher productivity vehicles.
Further details about the IAP nationally are available on the TCA website (www.tca.gov.au).
