Federal Interstate Registration Scheme

B-Doubles operating on Federal Plates

The Federal Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities is progressing the repeal of the Interstate Road Transport Act 1985 (Cth) which means the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme (FIRS) will be decommissioned by 1 July 2018.

From 1 July 2018, FIRS will be closed to new registrations and renewals.

The termination of FIRS will require the current FIRS registered vehicle owners to apply for their vehicles to be licensed under WA road law.

Please see the FIRS page on the Department of Transport website for further information.

Note: To operate a B-double in WA, operators are required to be accredited under Western Australian Heavy Vehicle Accreditation. Please visit our Accreditation page for further information.
