Preferred Equipment

Preferred Electrical and ITS Equipment List Guideline

Purpose

This guideline specifies preferred electrical and intelligent transport (ITS) equipment to be supplied to Main Roads Western Australia. It serves as a central reference document for Main Roads electrical and ITS contractual documentation where equipment is specified.

Adherence to this guideline will assist efficient and effective maintenance outcomes due to:

  1. More reliable and proven equipment;
  2. Increased familiarity of field staff with the asset base; and
  3. Optimised spare stock levels.

The efficiency of Main Roads project teams will also be improved, due to simplified design decision making processes.

Adherence to Specifications and Standards

Selection of any equipment listed in the Main Roads Electrical and ITS Preferred Equipment List will not negate that particular item of equipment from meeting the requirements of Main Roads Specifications, Australian Standards, or any other regulatory requirements. If, for any reason, an item listed in the Main Roads Electrical and ITS Preferred Equipment List fails to meet the relevant Specifications and Standards, then that item is, by default, unacceptable to Main Roads. Similarly, any item that does not meet specific project engineering and design requirements is also, by default, unacceptable to Main Roads.

Alternative Equipment

The preferred electrical and ITS equipment list is a guideline only and adherence is not mandatory.  Design staff are expected to use sound engineering judgement in the selection of equipment.

Where a designer needs to specify equipment outside of the list, it will be appreciated if the Main Roads Electrical Asset Management team is made aware of this so that the list can be reviewed, and updated as necessary.

Changes to the Main Roads Electrical and ITS Preferred Equipment List

The Principal Electrical Standards Engineer will issue revisions to the Main Roads Electrical and ITS Preferred Equipment List whenever changes are identified in regards equipment, standards, specifications and technologies.  Changes will also be considered should evaluations of alternative supplier's equipment show a positive overall benefit to Main Roads.

Suppliers of electrical equipment are encouraged to review the list and make contact with the Principal Electrical Standards Engineer to recommend additions and/or modifications to the list.
